King John’s Castle – Ireland

King John’s Castle is located on an island, now known as “King’s Island” and it is the main Limerick attraction. Its edification remotes in the 13rd century when King John, an Anglo-Norman ,“Lord of Ireland”, captured the area from a Viking settlement and ordered the construction of the castle. King John’s Castle was strategically built on the border of the river Shannon to charge any cargo passing through the port of Limerick and to protect the city from enemy attacks.
