Hey! I don’t know what you know about Brazil but I suppose that you associate Brazil with tropical country with carnivals, beaches, soccer and other things. I don’t think you associate Brazil with snow. Yeahhh!!! Snow! So, I’m going to tell you a little about my country.
Did you know it snows in Brazil? Actually, it’s an uncommon fact but it can occur in Brazil. When it happens everybody goes to the streets to celebrate this rare event. It snows in some parts of Brazil, mainly during the months of June, July and August – winter months in the Southern Hemisphere, in the high plains of the southern states of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná.
Besides these three states of Brazil, snowfalls can also occur more rarely in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Mato Grosso do Sul. In the state of Rio de Janeiro snow precipitation occurs at the Pico das Agulhas Negras located in Itatiaia National Park.
Most Brazilians have never seen snow in their lifetimes. If we want to see water ice falling from clouds we need to travel to other countries. However, snowfalls occured in many Brazilian cities in 2010 and 2013.
On August 2010, heavy snowfalls occured in the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. I got this images when I was in Santa Catarina State. It was the first time I saw snow in Brazil. I felt happy because I was in the exact place where snowfall was happening.
Other memorable event happened on July 2013, during the winter. It snowed in more than 100 Brazilian cities. It occured in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso do Sul.
I took this picture above to remember this rare moment in Brazil. As you can see this display is written in Portuguese.
It was a great moment in my life. I had fun that day.
Have a nice day. Thank you! Drika
