Did you know that Eiffel Tower celebrates 128 years in 2017? Eiffel Tower was inaugurated on March 31st, 1889 by Gustave Eiffel, a French engineer, who also participated in the construction of the Statue of Liberty, New York.
Since younger, I’ve always wanted to travel to Europe. But It was a distant dream. It took a long time to make it come true. I was in my thirties when finally I could realize it. Paris had been in my dream since I was young. I started making my own travel website (Que Tal Viajar?) in 2006 but I traveled to Europe only in 2010. I went on a tour around Europe and I made sure to choose France as my first destination. Finally I could explore the Old Continent for the first time and I could visit Paris!
In 1989, my mother and I went to a free classical concert at Flamengo Park in Rio de Janeiro. The concert was for the celebration of two hundred years of the French Revolution and the centennial anniversary of the Eiffel Tower. Can you imagine this in Rio de Janeiro? Unfortunately I don’t have any picture to show you. It was built a perfect replica of the Eiffel Tower of 75 metres (250 feet) high in Brazil and on June 24th, I was enchanted with the outdoor concert “Vive La France” under the Eiffel Tower replica.
This picture (below) of the Flamengo Park was taken on other occasion.
The festivity reached the peak of excellence when the Argentine dancer Jorge Donn and the dancers of the Dalal Achcar Ballet Company performanced a Béjart’s choreography for Ravel’s Bolero conducted by Issac Karabtchevsky, a Brazilian conductor.
In the past, It was common to happen free outdoor classical concerts in Rio de Janeiro. My mother always took me to watch them at Quinta da Boa Vista Park. The Brazilian Symphony Orchestra always presented their concerts in this park conducted by Issac Karabtchevsky. On that night they were conducting the festivities celebrating that special day at Flamengo Park.

It was a great event. I will never forget this. Unfortunately we can’t see this tower nowadays. After that night, the Eiffel Tower was disassembled. However, there is a Eiffel Tower replica at a thematic shopping in Rio de Janeiro city, its name is Barra World Shopping & Park.
Besides this replica in Rio de Janeiro, there are other Eiffel Towers in Brazil such as in the city of Rio Claro and Bauru, both in the State of São Paulo; in the city of Santos Dumont, in the State of Minas Gerais and in the city of Umuarama in the State of Paraná.
There are also other Eiffel Tower replicas in the world, of course, not only in Brazil but this is another story.
